Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Equifax.
Data Analyst
The interview was a good experience and lasted about 30 minutes. The interviewer wanted to learn more about me and check my English skills, which were important even if not a hard requirement. They asked some standard screening questions.
- Tell me about a problem you encountered and how you solved it.
Data Analyst
The interviews themselves and the people interviewing were fine. But I had a negative experience with the recruiter. She preferred calls over emails, which is fine, but these calls would be scheduled or postponed just a few hours before they were supposed to happen. This messed up my schedule at my current job because I had to reschedule meetings to accommodate her. After I didn't get the job, she scheduled a meeting to give feedback, which was a nice thought, but she didn't show up even though I accepted the invite, and then she ignored my emails, which was a waste of my time.
- Can you explain what an embedding is in the context of data science?
Data Modeler
An internal recruiter contacted me and suggested I apply because the role seemed like a good fit for my background. After completing all interviews, I received feedback that I was looking for other jobs, despite my assuring them that I wasn't applying elsewhere and that Equifax had asked me to apply. I was also told I lacked experience in building models, even though I've built over 100 and answered all technical questions about model building correctly. My conclusion is that I was excluded due to my race and ethnicity.
- Can you explain the process of building a model?
