So, there were 2 rounds in the interview process. First, I chatted with the team lead who's hiring for the role. Then, the second round was a technical discussion where I had to answer questions on the spot, but no actual coding was involved.

Technical Coding

I had a 10-minute phone chat with a recruiter, followed by a 1-hour technical interview via Karat. While Karat's approach to tech interviews is great, EOG could improve by assessing personality and holistic capabilities. The questions were specific and high-quality, avoiding the typical Leetcode grind that rewards excessive practice. The challenges felt more real-world for an iOS Developer, testing problem-solving skills. I think the tech industry's trend of removing tools like IDEs and LLM assistants gives a skewed view of abilities. Karat should aim for problems that challenge even with these tools.

The interview process started with two rounds with the staffing company, as they usually bring people in that way. The first was a Zoom call with one of their engineers where we talked about some basic Python stuff. After that, I did an online assessment, kind of like Hacker Rank, which was pretty straightforward but had a couple of challenging questions. Then, I had a Zoom call with a manager to check for cultural fit. The final stage was an on-site interview with three managers. This part was tough because of the time that had passed and how deeply they dug into my past technical experience and knowledge, but they were all really nice people.

Behavioral Technical

I had an initial interview for a position that wasn't a perfect fit. I'd spoken with the recruiter beforehand about how it wasn't an exact match, and they assured me the manager knew I lacked experience in some areas mentioned in the job description but was still interested because of my technical skills. However, during the interview, it became clear that the lack of experience was a significant issue, and the manager was quite dismissive of my unfamiliarity with the topic, even though my resume clearly stated it wasn't an area I had worked in.
