First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Enova.
Data Scientist
The process began with a home project that was quite straightforward. The main focus was on data cleaning and related tasks, along with building and comparing machine learning models. Following that, there was a final interview round covering Excel, SQL, and ML.
- The interview process included a HOME-Project about predicting list prices and competing to maximize profits through betting.
- Excel questions, which were pretty simple and required some basic business knowledge.
- Machine learning questions that were direct and not particularly difficult.
Data Scientist
So basically, you apply, then they look at your resume and do a quick phone call to see if you're a fit. If you pass that, they might give you a take-home test or some other kind of assessment to check your skills. After that, you'll have interviews, either online or in person, with different people on the team, like your potential manager and colleagues. Sometimes, you might even talk to higher-ups for a final chat to make sure you're on the same page with the company's vision. If everything goes well, they'll offer you the job, and then you get started with the onboarding.
- Could you walk me through an assessment you did related to pricing and the decision-making process for a purchase?
Data Scientist
They gave me a take-home assignment first, then there were 4 rounds with the team. The assignment involved doing some basic analysis to predict pricing using whatever method I thought was best. Then, in the interviews, they asked behavior questions, like how to approach data problems and apply them to business situations. There were also some statistical questions about the T-test.
- Can you discuss the assumptions of linear regression?
- Explain gradient descent.
- How would you approach data problems and apply them to business cases?
