After submitting the application, I had a one-way video interview. It was user-friendly and gave me time to prep my responses. They asked questions about working with others, solving problems, and what motivated me to apply.

The process had a first round which was a written technical/aptitude test. This was followed by a second round which was a technical and managerial interview. The process was streamlined with questions very related to the role. Overall it was a good and nice experience. The difficulty level was average.

I had a good impression of the company's office, finding it modern and appealing. The interviewers were great – friendly, patient, and genuinely interested in my background. The company's communication was professional, including a polite rejection notice. However, I felt we should have had a hiring manager phone screen before I drove an hour each way for the onsite interview, which I partly attribute to my own oversight in not requesting one. I had also hoped for a facility tour, which didn't materialize. My advice to HR is to have the hiring manager conduct an initial phone screen. The job description listed many skills but they were primarily looking for a C++ expert, which the title didn't fully reflect. The coding test focused on C++ OOP, which is challenging if you're not actively programming in it and haven't recently practiced. The code provided for the test was poorly written, hard to understand, and lacked documentation, making it difficult to work with under interview pressure. While coding tests are acceptable for onsite interviews, I wouldn't have come if I'd known it would constitute 90% of the actual job duties. Again, please screen candidates by phone before bringing them onsite.
