Technician
A recruiter reached out and I got invited to a hiring event at one of their hotel properties. I waited for an interview, and it was pretty easy. I got to speak with an operations manager and an hr person. Make sure to read the email with directions to the hiring event thoroughly.
- Tell me about your experience with video/audio cabling and equipment such as mixers and video switchers.
- We require open availability, can you accommodate that?
- What's your familiarity with HDMI cables?
Technician
The senior technician asked me some technical questions, questions about my work experience and how I solve technical problems. They also asked the classic 'why do you want to work for PSAV?' question. The process was really fast and simple.
- Tell me about your experience with video, audio, and lighting systems.
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
- How do you approach solving technical issues?
Repair Technician
I applied online, which was a bit of a hassle because the website's interface was tricky. You had to remember to "save" your work often, or the page would refresh and you'd lose your entries. Right after applying, I got an invitation for what they called a video question phase, but it wasn't a video interview at all. It was actually a multiple-choice test focused on electronics and component-level repair. Then, I got another request, this time for a real video interview. This one you do on your phone; they ask you questions, and you have to answer them immediately. The questions were about fixing components, with a big focus on soldering. The video part was pretty stressful. First, you record yourself reading the question. Right after that recording finishes, the second recording starts where you answer. You get a short break before you can decide whether to keep the first recording or re-record the answer. I used that break time to quickly write down a script to read for the subsequent recordings. They don't let you review and choose which recording to submit. I haven't heard back since then.
- Can you explain how you would go about removing and replacing a component on a PC board, focusing on your soldering abilities?
