Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Empyrean Benefit Solutions.
Business Systems Analyst
It was pretty easy. I talked to 2 people who would be my managers. One was technical and one was behavioral. The job description mentioned SQL, so I prepared for that, and that's what the technical interviewer asked about.
- Were you asked SQL query questions?
- Can you explain how you would solve these SQL query questions?
Business Systems Analyst
I applied online through LinkedIn for a Professional Development Program. They offer new hires 3-4 weeks of paid training for the BSA role before placing them on a project. The interview process started with a quick 5-10 minute phone screen, then an invite to an all-day recruiting event a week later. At the event, current employees give an overview of the company and the role over a light lunch. After that, there were 4 separate 30-minute interviews with different managers and directors. A current BSA acted as my host for the day, guiding me between interviews and giving me a personal tour. I had a set itinerary for the day. The interviews were all behavioral, with no technical questions. Since there's formal training, they don't expect much technical skill, but having some VBA, SQL, or Python knowledge is a plus. Even without that experience, you still have a shot if you seem friendly, approachable, and interested in the company, showing you're eager to learn. Asking thoughtful questions about their software and showing genuine interest is important. After the interviews, we had a debrief with snacks in the executive room. I was told I'd hear back within a week, but got a call with an offer just a day and a half later. It was very fast.
- Is there anything not on your resume you want me to know?
- Tell me about your experience working in teams.
- How would you handle a situation where a team member isn't contributing to a project?
Business Systems Analyst
First, had a 30 minute phone interview where they asked pretty high-level questions about my experience. Then, about a week later, I had an in person interview. It consisted of two interviews, each with two interviewers. The first pair were client-facing, and the second pair were technical. I was asked to bring an example of a project I worked on. They also showed me around the office. I got the offer about a week after that.
- Can you tell me about your SQL experience?
