Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EMERITUS.
Creative Manager
I interviewed for a position at Emeritus that seemed like a perfect fit for my skills and offered the opportunity to work from home. The interview process included three rounds, one of which was a test. While the interview itself was well-structured and aligned with the role's requirements, the follow-up process was disappointing. After completing all the interview rounds, I followed up with the HR representative via email and WhatsApp a week later to inquire about the status of my application. Unfortunately, I did not receive any response. I eventually learned through a LinkedIn connection that I was not selected for the position. I believe it is the responsibility of HR to communicate the outcome of the interview process to candidates in a timely and professional manner. Additionally, providing feedback on what went wrong and areas for improvement would greatly benefit candidates in preparing for future opportunities. Emeritus has a great reputation, but this aspect of their candidate experience needs improvement. Clear and timely communication, along with constructive feedback, can significantly enhance the overall interview experience for prospective employees.

Senior Manager
It started with an intro call with the hiring manager, which was about 45 minutes. Then, there was a 60-minute presentation round with the hiring manager and managers from other departments. Finally, a culture fit interview took place, lasting about 30 minutes.

- Can you describe your leadership approach?
Delivery Manager
The hiring process was really quick, I heard back within a week. First, they asked me questions about handling work situations. Then, there was an English test, both verbal and written, which was pretty easy. The last round was about setting expectations for the role and company culture, and also questions about managing people. I did get an offer, but I decided not to take it. My reasons were: 1. It seemed like the company isn't very focused on its employees, which gave me a bad feeling about the work environment. 2. The salary offer was quite low. It was just a 30% hike on my fixed pay with no other benefits, and they didn't consider my variable pay, equity, or bonuses which are pretty standard for this kind of job and what I currently get. So, all in all, it didn't seem like a great deal. 3. They emphasized that they were offering remote work during COVID, and that's why the pay was low and there were no other benefits, which I didn't think was reasonable. They also made a big deal about offering remote work, which is pretty common everywhere now. 4. Once they made an offer, there was no room for discussion or negotiation. They didn't seem interested in hearing my perspective at all, which really hurt my confidence in their HR. So, the interview itself was fast and the rounds were easy, but the HR attitude wasn't very welcoming and the company culture didn't feel employee-friendly or comfortable.
- Questions about handling work-related situations.
- Test of English verbal and written skills (considered easy).
- Discussion about role expectations and company culture fit, including people management questions.
