First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ellevest.
Software Engineer
The interview process involved phone screens, a take home assignment, a technical review of that assignment, a pair coding session, a cross-team interview, and a project walkthrough. The whole experience at Ellevest was really nice and gave a good sense of the company culture. Madison was super helpful and informative, doing a lot to get me to the interview stage. Everyone I talked to during the interviews was pleasant and professional. The team members seemed really into their work and enjoyed it there. Overall, it was a great experience.

Software Engineer
Ellevest's interview process is great, I felt comfortable. Everyone was open, smart and welcoming. It includes a phone screen, a take home assignment, a follow-up technical screen reviewing the assignment, and a multi-interview onsite. The take home was fun and fairly simple, just build something to call an external API using the API documentation. I'd recommend thinking about tech and having it installed beforehand. After submitting, there's a follow-up call with an engineer to discuss your choices, which is open-ended and shows your thinking. The onsite had three back-to-back interviews with the hiring manager and engineers. Standard questions covered: behavioral, basic algorithms, and a past system design discussion. Interviewers were helpful, considerate and empathetic. The onsite was only three hours, which is a plus. Meeting the team was fantastic and a wonderful experience. Maybe adding a lunch or meeting with product/design could improve it.

Software Engineer
Had a brief 20-minute call initially to get acquainted with the company and the role. Following that, I had an interview with an Engineering Manager that delved deeper into the specifics of the position. Then came a take-home assignment that was pretty straightforward and didn't have a time limit. After submitting it, I waited two weeks to hear back. When I followed up, I was informed they were keeping my resume on file and proceeding with candidates who were a better fit. It's unclear if my submission wasn't up to par or if they had already extended other offers. Apart from the communication lapse at the end, the interview process itself was quite positive.
