First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Elevate Credit.
Data Scientist
The interview had three total rounds, all virtual. I spoke with two people in the first round and three in the second. I was cut after the second round, so I didn't make it to the final round. It was a mix of behavioral and technical interviews. The first round included a riddle and some funny questions, basically a vibe check.
- If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Data Scientist
I reached out to a data science manager at Elevate. After some chats, HR contacted me for a phone interview. The initial phone interview was great; they focused on core concepts rather than specific tech. Within a week of that, I got invited for an onsite in San Diego. The onsite interviews were even better, with questions that made me think and required a solid grasp of math and stats. There were three technical interviews and one HR interview. I left feeling positive about it all. Although they let me know there'd be a wait for a decision, I never heard back, which was disappointing. I would have loved to work there.
- Can you explain the basics of statistical techniques such as regularization, ensuring a strong understanding of the underlying mathematics?
- Tell me about the basics in statistical techniques like regularization. Make sure you understand the maths well.
Data Scientist
I talked to a team member in the first round. It was two 15-minute chats that felt like speed dating, with some weird brain teaser questions. Then, the second round had two 30-minute conversations; one was more behavioral, and the other was technical.
- What's your approach to finding a needle in a haystack?
