Technical Artist
So, the whole process started with an online technical test where I had to show my practical skills as a technical artist, covering stuff like tooling, animation/rigging ideas, and how I approach problems. After that, there was a technical interview which was basically a deep dive into my test submission, my understanding of technical art basics, and some general questions about the field.
- Can you explain the differences between Tangent space and Object Space and their effects on shaders?
- What is the difference between Tangent space and Object Space, and what is their impact in Shaders?
- Explain the difference between Tangent space and Object Space, and how they impact in Shaders.

So, the interview process was pretty cool at first, and I did get a referral. They responded fast (except at the very end) and had this awesome website with all the interview deets, zoom links, info about the interviewers, and even some tips. I had a phone screen with the recruiter who told me more about the gig. Then, I had a 30-min Zoom chat with the department Director. It felt more like a chat, and I mostly asked them questions about the role to see if it was a good fit, which was super thoughtful. The final interview was a 2-hour block the following week. First, I spent an hour with some senior TAs doing behavioral questions. They really dug into what I do now, my past projects, the usual behavioral stuff you can find online, and why I want to be a TA/EA. After that, another hour with two other senior TAs for a 'whiteboarding' session. The people leading it were really chill and calm, which made it much easier. I got to ask a bunch of questions in both interview parts. A week went by after my last interview and I heard nothing. So, I followed up exactly a week later about my application status. Still no reply, haven't heard anything. I also heard they can't give feedback if you don't get the job, which is pretty weird.
- Could you define OOP and explain two of its principles?
- Please code a function to calculate the sum of an array.
- Now, can you write the same array sum function but using a while loop?

After applying, I got a phone call and we scheduled an interview for the following week. They gave me directions to their office and the names/positions of my interviewers. Casual dress code was recommended. The interview had two parts: first, a chat with two technical artists, and second, a meeting with the managers. The first part was really chill, but the managers' interview was more standard. Overall, it was a pretty easy and pleasant interview, and I felt they were more interested in how well I'd fit in with the team than my technical skills for the job.
- Given a 100-floor building and two game consoles, how would you determine the minimum floor from which a console will break when dropped?
- You have 5 floors to make an impression on the CEO in an elevator. How would you convince him to hire you?
- Describe a negative experience you had working with a colleague. How did you manage the situation, and do you believe your actions were appropriate?
