Data Scientist
First, a 30-minute recruiter call to go over the interview process. Then, a 45-minute meeting with the hiring manager. Finally, there are three 45-minute panel interviews with different stakeholders, typically including a director, a non-technical stakeholder, and one or two team members. Each person on the panel will ask questions relevant to their area, covering communication, product understanding, or coding skills.
- Tell me about yourself and your experiences.
- Can you write a SQL query to achieve X?
- How would you approach a product-related problem?
Data Scientist
So the first part of the interview was just explaining my current role at a high level, which was fine. Then they said we'd do behavioral, but it wasn't really behavioral, just questions about travel and relocation. The technical part was more trivia, like random questions about transformers and RNNs, even though deep learning wasn't in the job description. They asked about L1/L2 regularization without giving a scenario. It felt like the interviewer wasn't prepared for the role.
- Can you describe a solution from your current role?
- Can you describe your current role at a high level?
- Are you open to 10% travel?
Data Scientist
Got an email from a recruiter about my resume and they wanted to interview me. Had a quick 10-minute phone chat, and then they scheduled a technical interview with two data scientists. Both interviewers called at the same time, which was a bit uncoordinated. One started by explaining their projects. I then briefly talked about my projects and skills. After that, they asked several machine learning questions, which were straightforward and I tied them to my past projects. Then came one algorithm question on arrays. I offered three correct solutions, but they were looking for an O(n) solution that I couldn't think of right away. The interviewer was quite friendly.
- general machine learning questions
- an algorithm question about arrays
- an o(n) solution for an algorithm question about arrays
