After applying, I was contacted by someone at Elastic about a week later. The process that followed included: a 30-minute Recruiter Screen, a 45-minute Hiring Manager interview, a 90-minute Technical Deep Dive, and finally a 60-minute Mock Presentation. The people I interacted with were all very nice and kept me well-updated throughout. It was genuinely one of the better interview experiences I've had.

I was initially contacted by a recruiter who was very encouraging and provided good guidance. Then, I had a meeting with my potential direct manager, and we connected well, which felt very positive. The next step was a technical interview, and that's where things went wrong. The interviewer seemed to have deep knowledge in only one specific area and kept focusing on that. I felt I could discuss all the topics they brought up at different levels of detail. I thought this role would be less technical and more focused on customer interaction and consulting, which I believe I excelled at. The interviewer asked questions that seemed open-ended but clearly expected very specific answers. I followed the advice to ask about my performance and suitability for the job at the end, and they gave a positive response, essentially confirming I could do the job. However, a few days later, I received a rejection email. I reached out to the hiring manager to express my thanks for the opportunity, but I didn't get a reply. I don't think the technical interview was a fair evaluation and felt it was an arbitrary way to filter candidates.

Had a recruiter screen call for 30 mins. They gave a high-level overview of the role, asked about my background, and got my salary expectations. Then had a hiring manager interview, which was a really bad experience. The interviewer was rude from the start, didn't make eye contact, didn't smile, or say hello. They skipped introductions and jumped straight into abstract visual tests. I'm okay with tricky tests, but I expect basic kindness and humanity, which was missing. The rudeness annoyed me immediately. After about 10 minutes of this attitude, I called out the interviewer for not starting the meeting courteously. They got defensive, said I was 'missing the point,' and that it was 'their meeting' to do as they please. The interviewer's attitude made it clear I couldn't work there. I ended the interview early because it was obvious the company culture fosters this kind of behavior. Elastic, please ensure your interviewers get modern interviewing etiquette training. This whole experience gave me a very poor impression of the company.
