Started with a phone interview, then a video call. Everything felt good. They were keen on my segmentation experience. The questions were pretty direct, but the interviews are still ongoing. The real challenge seems to be in how answers are taken rather than the questions themselves.

The white-board session I had was similar to a sentence building game about the perception of different brands. To be honest I am not sure how a candidate's competence, work ethic or technical skills can be assessed through this kind of test at all. It seems more like a cultural compatibility / leadership skills test. In that regard, everyone at the company who I came across during the recruitment process seem to come from very homogeneous racial&class backgrounds. Maybe it's not a surprise that there are complaints about diversity and inclusion on this platform.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So after chatting with a manager about potential roles, I got an invite about two weeks later to apply using Egg, their "Over-the-Shoulder" ethnography app. I had to record video and audio responses to a bunch of questions on my phone. I was given about 48 hours to finish this part once I started. A few weeks after I sent in the videos, I had a 30-minute Skype call with the company president. The next week, I was asked to set up some on-campus interviews in Boulder, which included meeting the president again in person, and then a second day of meeting with about 7 team members individually for 30-60 minutes each, from strategists to exec directors. The in-person interviews in Boulder were mostly focused on cultural fit (like 80%), so be ready to discuss your career and personal aspirations.

An internal recruiter reached out to schedule me for an interview. After that, I spoke with a Director about brands, their expression, and consumer desires. Then, I had another virtual meeting with two other Directors. I didn't get an offer, but the recruiter gave me a quick update a few days after the interview. I asked for feedback and received detailed notes explaining why I wasn't selected. She also mentioned they'd be in touch when things return to normal post-COVID, which I'm hopeful about.
