I had a technical Python interview where I was asked to parse a JSON file and output it in a particular way. After that, we moved on to a behavioral interview, and I was asked questions about the projects I've worked on and other experiences from my resume.

Behavioral Technical

It was 3 rounds. First was an HR screening, pretty basic stuff, just chatting about my past work and resume, and what I'm looking for in a job. Then I had a round with the hiring manager, focused on behavioral questions to get a feel for the role. The last part was onsite with 5 separate interviews. These were more technical, but honestly, it seemed like they cared more about whether you'd fit in with the team than pure technical skill.

The recruiter was pleasant, but I felt like the interview focused too much on 'nice to have' skills listed in the job description. I suspect I was rejected based on my honest answers to these questions, and I think those skills should have been listed as required. The compensation, including benefits, seemed low for a senior engineer, more in line with what I'd expect from a small company, especially given the current economic climate. The recruiter's enthusiasm for the company and inability to provide a genuine con when asked was a bit of a concern, especially after reading about the company culture. Ultimately, it felt like they were seeking a highly experienced candidate for a passion project at a below-market salary, which was disappointing.
