Territory Sales Manager
I was set up with a phone interview two days out. The call started right on time, and the HR person gave me the lowdown on how long it would be (30 mins) and what to expect. She then hit me with some standard questions you can find with a quick Google search for 'Top 20 Interview Questions.' Even though I did my homework on the company, none of the questions really let me show off what I learned. After the questions, she gave me a super detailed rundown of the job, including perks, chances to move up, and training info. I was told I'd hear back in a week or two about the next steps.
- Can you tell me about a time you lost a customer or a business opportunity?
- Of all your accomplishments, which one are you most proud of?
- What would you say is your biggest weakness?
Sales Manager
It was a 6 month long onboarding process, which was drawn out and nobody communicated anything. Managers and HR didn't return phone calls often. They hire before they actually need someone, and someone knows about moving jobs within the company 6 months ahead of time to allow for training. The training was extensive, but not enough to prepare anyone for field work unless they already had experience in plumbing, electric, and/or machine repair.
- Which animal would you be if you were one?
Sales Manager
I applied online, and HR called me pretty quickly. After that, I had to do a competency test with some percent change problems. Then, I did a ride-along with someone already in the role. Finally, I had an in-person interview with three people where they mostly went over my resume. They made it clear that sales are super important here.
- HR wanted to know if you can hold a conversation and if you can work with tools.
