Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ECG Management Consultants.
Consultant
I had a basic phone screen, then a case analysis and Excel test (counting ifs, pivot tables, etc.). The third round involved a recorded submission, and the final round was a behavioral interview with three employees. The first three rounds had quick decisions, but after the final round, they said I'd hear back in a week. I followed up two weeks after that, and got a rejection 15 minutes later. It would have been nice to get that sooner without me having to ask.
- Could you share an instance where you had a different opinion on a project's direction?
Consultant
I saw the job on LinkedIn and applied. First, there was a phone call with HR. Then, I had a timed Excel test and a writing assessment. After that, I had a video interview with a senior manager. Finally, there were 3 more video interviews with two senior managers and a partner. The interviewers were all really nice and I liked talking to them. I was sad I didn't get an offer because I thought it was a great fit, but they were responsive and it was good practice. HR told me their decision in one business day, and the whole thing took about a month. The platform for the Excel and writing parts was a bit weird, but it was a good experience overall.
- Can you share examples of past experiences?
- Tell me about a time you demonstrated a specific skill or behavior.
- Questions were asked that were relevant to the consultant role.
Senior Consultant
Started with an HR Screening call, which was voice recorded so I could reference details. Then had a few 1:1s with group leaders, followed by a proctored Excel test and a personality test. The whole process was pretty fast. Unfortunately, the offer didn't match what we discussed, which was unsettling, so I declined.
- Can you provide an example of something?
- Why are you interested in ECG?
- What's prompting your departure from your current role?
