First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Eaton.
Sales Engineer Intern
The interview process at Eaton was pretty straightforward. It was more about behavioral and situational questions than super technical ones. I talked with hiring managers and some team members. They asked about how I solve problems, my experiences with teamwork, and how I deal with tough situations when things are moving fast. They seemed really interested in how I communicate, how flexible I am, and if I'm eager to learn. It was a smooth and conversational process overall, which made it easy to talk about my background and how I'd be a good fit.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain your interest in joining Eaton?
Sales Engineer
This was a field position. First interview was face-to-face with hiring manager in the territory I would support. Second interview was a series of interviews at company headquarters with the 2nd level manager (VP), and 3 others, including representatives from Marketing and Customer Service. Interview with hiring manager was good. He asked good, relevant questions and also did a good job explaining the opportunity. Interviews at HQ went smoothly, too. HR rep was very accommodating, set me up in a conference room and the various interviewers stopped by at their appointed times and interviewed me. A smooth process overall and all interviews were relevant to the job (no completely off-the-wall questions). Some of the questions were repetitive, as you might expect when you have 4 interviews back-to-back.
- Tell me about a goal you set and how you achieved it.
- Describe a work challenge, your solution, and the outcome.
Sales Engineer
This was my second attempt with this company, the first interview invitation never materialized. The process started on April 2, when the HR manager scheduled a face-to-face interview for May 23, sending travel details on May 22. The interview had three sessions: two with a manager each, and the last with two future colleagues. It felt like a good conversation about my experience. I sent thank-you emails two days later with no response. A week and a half after that, I got an update saying they were reviewing candidates. On June 11, the hiring manager told me I was overqualified, mentioning he'd spoken to another manager in a different state about me. He said that manager would call, but hasn't, and his offer to help with other internal opportunities also hasn't materialized. I'm baffled because my resume clearly shows 6 years of experience, an engineering degree, and an MBA, and they were looking for someone fresh out of college. It's disappointing how they handled this.
- Describe a situation where you decided to stop pursuing a sales lead.
