Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Eaton.
Applications Engineer
The interview process was pretty easy and straightforward. They didn't ask any technical questions, it was all behavioral. The first round was with an HR person who asked basic background questions and some behavioral ones. The second round was with some lead engineers and they asked more behavioral questions, which were a bit tougher.
- Tell me about a time you had to make an ethical decision.
Applications Engineer
I applied online and was contacted by the internal recruiter really quickly. We had a phone interview the next day that was about an hour long. Then, a manager invited me for an onsite interview with some managers and an HR rep. During the interview, they talked a lot about Eaton's ethics, which was ironic given what happened later. They said a manager from Texas would call me for a phone conference on Thursday afternoon, but the call never happened. I emailed the HR rep to figure things out, but they didn't even respond. The day after that, the original manager called and said they weren't moving forward because I lacked industry knowledge. They didn't apologize for the missed call or wasting my time. It's hard to believe a company would ignore their own ethics like that. I can't recommend them.
- Can you describe how you've tackled a new concept at work before?
- Could you share your biggest strength and your biggest weakness?
Applications Engineer
Had a phone interview for an introduction, then an in person interview in Mississauga, Canada. The interviewer seemed biased against hiring me, as he focused on lighting design, an area where I have less experience, instead of AutoCAD, where I have extensive experience. I mentioned I am learning lighting design. Upon checking his profile, I saw he also learned lighting design after joining the company. This leads me to believe he intended to hire someone he already knew.
- Do you have experience with lighting design and AutoCAD?
