First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Earnest.
Sales and Business Development Manager
So, the interview process kicked off with a phone screen by the hiring manager. After that, I had a panel interview, then a case study, and finally, another chat with the hiring manager. Things seemed to be going well after the initial hiring manager screen; they even said I was a good fit and moving on. But then, I waited two days with no word from the recruiter. I tried reaching out, but crickets. The next day, I got a generic rejection email. That's why I'm sharing this so others know what to expect.
- Can you give me your elevator pitch, highlighting your experience and how it connects to a go-to-market strategy for selling student loan refinancing to employers as a benefit?
Content Marketing Manager
The interview process was really supportive! The recruiting team at Earnest was super communicative and transparent throughout the whole thing, from the first screen to the panel interviews. They helped me prepare by sending over interview questions beforehand, giving me interviewer details, and even offering tips on how to structure my answers. The take-home assignment was also really reasonable and clear, not too time-consuming like some other places. What really impressed me was getting feedback on why I wasn't selected, delivered over a call instead of just an automated email. That made a big difference, and I'd definitely apply again for a future role.
- Tell me about a time you faced a seemingly impossible project or a lot of pushback, and how you handled it.
Product Manager
I first chatted with a recruiter who then set up my hiring manager interview. We had a good discussion since my background is in student tuition payments and fintech lending platforms. The HM seemed pleased with my answers and laid out the rest of the process. A week later, I got a generic rejection message which was unexpected. This role has been posted continuously since last summer, and I saw it again in March 2024. I advise against interviewing with this company as it's a waste of time. It seems like there are issues with the hiring process or managers that haven't been addressed, as this pattern of reposting the same role is common.
- Standard questions for a Product Manager role.
Product Analyst
I applied for the role and the HM reached out. I got the green light for the virtual onsite. They were really accommodating and scheduled it around my availability. The interviews covered standard product analytics topics, A/B testing, and how I work with different teams. The last interview was a bit of a downer; they mentioned feedback about lacking FinTech experience, which seemed odd since my resume clearly shows I'm not from that background and it was never brought up before. It felt like a waste of time to get to that point just to be given a reason like that.
- What's your usual process as a Hiring Manager for screening candidates?
- Can you walk me through your experience with A/B testing?
- How do you approach cross-functional collaboration?
