The first part was a chat with HR, and then I talked to someone at my level, a Project Manager. I felt good about both chats. Then, they asked for two professional references, which I gave. HR checked with my references and got good feedback. I followed up after the reference check, and they said they were putting the job on hold for about a week while they decided. I followed up again a week later. This time, I was told they had too many people on the bench without billable work and weren't sure if that would change. It felt like a waste of my time and my references' time, who took time off work to reply to HR. HR should have known about the company's billing situation and not gone forward if they couldn't hire. I hope to talk to a leader about this so it doesn't happen to someone else.

The process started with an initial phone conversation, which was basically a screening to get to the next stage. After that, there was an interview with HR, followed by a test. The bottleneck is the test; if you don't clear it, you won't proceed. I'm not sure if there are exceptions. The test should really happen first, and the HR interview should be after a candidate passes the test.
