& Process

It took a week from applying to get an interview request, all through email, no phone calls. The interview was a 15-minute panel with 3 supervisors and one SME, asking questions one after another. They asked about my past experiences related to the role and my software comfort. We also talked about pay and schedule. I got a rejection phone call a week after the interview.

Job was posted to all eligible candidates. Candidates sent resume and letter of interest to principal. Candidate got an email asking them to call the secretary to set up an interview on a specific day. Candidate confirmed the appointment, was on time, got a tour of the facility from office staff, and then went to a room for a panel interview with the standards coach, current assistant principal, and principal. The school was in a low socio-economic area, had a fence and gates, and you had to use a buzzer at the main door before office staff would let you in. Office staff were very nice and answered any questions I had. The panel asked questions about AP duties, analyzing data, and improving student results. After the interview, I sent a polite email to the principal. The principal replied nicely that they were reviewing the candidates and would soon invite some for a second interview. That happened as promised, but I wasn't selected for a second interview or the job.

Teachers interview with specific principals. You can find a lot of information about each school on the internet. It would be beneficial to know what's happening at a specific school and how you could be a part of it (what will you do that's 'extra'?). This will go a long way in endearing you to the administration. Many teachers get burned out quickly due to the high workload and lack of administrative support, so be enthusiastic and excited about education. They're always looking for new, fresh souls to harvest. Good Luck!

I met with 4 people in a room. They introduced themselves and then I talked about my past work and how it applies here. They asked me individual questions about my last job, like what I liked and disliked, what was the most rewarding part, and how I could tell if a project was succeeding or failing. They were mostly checking if my technical experience was a good fit. They also asked some personal questions about things like being detail-oriented, time management, organization, and communication skills.
