Technical Support Engineer
The interview process took about 3 weeks and had around 7 interviews. I first talked to the recruiter, then I had a written assessment. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager and the support team. It was a really good experience overall. The questions were about half behavioral and half technical. Some technical questions were tough, but the interviewers were really nice and chill.
- What do you know about encryption?
- Name one tcp and one udp service with it's appropriate network port
- What's the difference between TCP and UDP?
Technical Support Engineer
I applied online and got a call pretty fast, like within a day. The phone screen was kinda weird, not really technical but more about dealing with a difficult recruiter who seemed like they thought I was wasting their time. I tried to stay professional though, thinking maybe it was a test for a client-facing role. They asked why I wanted to join Duo, and when I started giving general reasons, they cut me off and asked for specifics. I gave them my technical skills but then asked about the languages they use since the job description was vague on that. The recruiter said they weren't a technical recruiter and couldn't tell me. It was awkward with dead air and a monotone voice. They seemed more focused on the time than getting to know me, so I filled the silence by talking about my background. After about ten minutes total, they said we were out of time but surprisingly mentioned they were moving forward and I'd get a technical assignment in 48 hours, telling me to remind them if I didn't get it. Two days later, nothing, so I sent a reminder. No reply. A week later, I followed up again. Immediately after that, I got an automated email saying I wasn't selected. The recruiter never bothered to reply to my emails after explicitly telling me to follow up with them.

Technical Support Engineer
The interview process is pretty standard, a screening interview with HR followed by a more in depth interview with the hiring team. After speaking with the hiring team I was asked to provide a writing sample and I was provided with a document with questions to answer. I submitted my sample and didn't hear anything further. Only after looking at my application account did I find out I wasn't selected. I followed up with HR to see if I could get some feedback on what I could improve. Despite the writing sample instructions stating that it was ok if I didn't answer all the questions correctly and that they were looking at style more than content, I was told that the hiring manager didn't like that I got some of the specific product details wrong in one of my answers. He also didn't like my writing style. All fine and dandy but those things could've been addressed with some feedback from the team. I feel that they could've taken the time to give me the feedback I had to request and at the very least let me know I wasn't selected. All in all I didn't get a sense that the hiring team cared about their candidates and just forgot about me when I was no longer a candidate.
