Started with a recruiter screen that was good, giving insight into the culture and questions. The next step was different, involving a take-home test with customer support scenarios and email responses that the hiring manager would review. These questions were open-ended, likely checking writing skills, product knowledge, and personality traits. If the responses were good, there would be a live discussion about the role and a product demo. This was interesting given I didn't know internal processes, but I understand it helps filter candidates. My only worry is how interpersonal and customer skills are judged through written responses for a customer-facing role. The recruiter did a good job with communication and updates.

This was a really bad interview experience. Communication from HR was poor from the beginning, starting with the homework assignment. HR kept sending incorrect or misleading info, and I had to chase them for details. They even threatened to move on if I couldn't accommodate their schedule, which was tough as I have a current job and need to manage my time off. The process started with a basic HR call, then a simple written homework assignment that would be easy for customer-facing roles. Next was the manager interview, which was general and focused on my resume and tech experience, with VPN device experience being a plus. I was rejected via a generic email within 12 hours, without a clear reason. I'm glad I'm not moving forward. The company should really improve their HR communication and overall process.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied online and the whole thing took over 4 weeks. It started with a 30-min chat with the recruiter, Nate, who was super nice and knew his stuff. We talked about my background, what I knew about Duo, and why I wanted the job. Then I had a video call with my potential boss. They asked more specific stuff about my experience and if I was a good fit for the role. It was pretty chill and conversational, but they were definitely trying to figure out my qualifications. After that, there was a written assignment. I got a writing sample with some email and customer support replies they wanted me to respond to, and the hiring manager reviewed my answers. It felt like Duo really wants trustworthy people who can handle a fast-paced environment without a big ego. The next stage was another video call with the hiring manager to present my take on Duo. It wasn't about knowing the product inside out, but more about how I present myself and how comfortable I am with what I did know. The manager made me feel at ease right away. A few days later, I went to their San Mateo office to meet the team onsite. I interviewed with sales managers, customer success folks, the hiring manager again, and another Senior CSE. Everyone was really friendly, it felt more like hanging out than an interview. They were interested in me as a person, my tech background, and how I'd fit into the team in a busy setting. They make the process thorough because they're serious about hiring the right person. Their HR team is amazing, always keeping me in the loop, setting expectations, and prepping me for each step. Nate, the recruiter, was a superstar, putting in extra hours, even on weekends, to get me updates and sort out the paperwork. That level of dedication, plus the whole interview experience, made accepting the offer after the onsite a no-brainer.
