First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Duke University.
Program Coordinator
So first I submitted a cover letter. Then I had a behavioral interview over Zoom. The last step was in person and included a presentation and then a panel interview where five people asked me questions.
- Can you start by telling us about yourself?
- Describe a situation where you had to manage conflict.
- For the presentation, we were given scenarios. How would you approach solving them?
Program Coordinator
We started with a phone interview. Then I had an in-person interview with the supervisor, followed by a second interview with the director of programs, and then a third interview with staff, all on the same day.
- Describe your approach to deescalating issues with students who are irate or overwhelmed.
Program Coordinator
The hiring process took about 2 months, and I got the job. Initially, I was invited for an interview, but they decided to go a different route, then re-invited me. One interview was laid back, while the other seemed judgmental and asked many questions based on assumptions. I answered with ease as I was familiar with the questions and why they are asked. I had a phone interview and didn't meet the managers in person until after I was hired.
- Can you describe your current responsibilities?
- How does your current role differ from the one you're applying for?
- How can you assure us you won't leave after we invest in training you?
