Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DreamWorks Animation.
Software Engineer
Started with an initial phone screen. Then had an onsite interview with engineers and the hiring manager. They really dug into my skills, education, and expertise.
- Can you describe your most challenging projects and how you approached solving them?
Software Engineer
I interviewed with the team manager first, mostly reviewing my resume and discussing my interest in front end development since that's what the job was about. Got a call the next day to move on. The second interview was with 3 senior engineering managers, 30 minutes each. It was similar, mostly resume review and back-and-forth questions, pretty casual. Got the offer about 2 weeks later but turned it down because of the high cost of living, no housing assistance, and the hourly pay was kind of low.
- Which JavaScript frameworks do you know?
Software Engineer
First, there was an online coding test where I had to write a program to check if parentheses in an expression are matched. Then, a phone screen where we talked about my past work and some simple array algorithmic problems. After that, two face to face interviews. In these, I had to explain my resume in detail, answer some behavioral questions like 'describe a challenge that you solved', and work on algorithms involving DFS and Binary search trees.
- Tell me about an achievement you're really proud of from your past experience.
