First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DoveLewis.
Animal Care Technician
I had a really weird experience interviewing here. I talked to the recruiter who basically told me there is no way of moving up from this position into other positions. The recruiter seemed very disinterested in my experiences and past animal history. I wouldn't recommend applying if you plan on moving up in the company. Would be a good place just to get your foot in the door and then leave to go somewhere better.
- Are you okay with working overnights?
Technician Assistant
I reached out to Dove Lewis for an informational chat about the company and the different roles available. They then encouraged me to apply for the Animal Care Assistant position. Just a day after I submitted my online application, they got in touch to set up an in-person interview with HR and the TA Manager, followed by a working interview.
- When there's a spill on the ER floor, a stat triage happening in the parking lot, and a scheduled exam, how would you prioritize?
- If a surgeon yells at you for having the wrong tools ready, but it was actually your co-worker who made the mistake, how do you respond or what do you do?
- How would you handle it if two technicians on the floor are constantly arguing and it's impacting your work and the work of others?
Veterinary Technician Assistant
I initially applied online. Soon after, I got a message to set up a one-way video interview, where I could record myself answering questions and re-record if needed. A few days later, I had a webcam interview with an HR person and a TA manager. A couple weeks after that, I flew out to Portland during my spring break for a working interview. This working interview was about 4 hours long and was designed to help me see if this was a place I'd want to work.
- Can you provide specific examples of times you demonstrated leadership skills?
- Describe a time you handled a stressful situation effectively.
- Share an experience where you had difficulty getting along with a teammate.
Customer Service Representative
Found the job on a weekday, had a phone screen/interview the next week, and the following week had an in-person interview at their facility with three people, which felt a bit overwhelming. Then there was a working interview with two HR personnel and the CSR/TA Manager. They asked questions that went beyond the usual, seeming to prioritize cultural fit as much as job skills. The in-person interview took longer than expected, about an hour and a half. The working interview wasn't just observing, it was like the start of training and lasted 3 hours.
- Given our humane euthanasia fund draws many people to our hospital, and CSRs assist owners through the process, how would you handle helping 5 families put their pets down in one shift?
