First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Doubletree By Hilton.
Receptionist
The whole interview process took about three weeks, and honestly, the organization from this Hotel was a bit lacking. It started with a phone call to set up the interview. My first interview was with the assistant manager in their lobby cafe, right next to where customers were having coffee. It felt like she hadn't even looked at my CV, as I had to point out my previous employers. After that chat, I was told to go home and wait for a call about a second interview with the hotel manager. The assistant manager called two days later to schedule the second interview for the next morning. I couldn't make it, so we rescheduled for the following Monday at 11 AM. I got there 10 minutes early on Monday, waited about 10 minutes, and then the assistant manager came out to say the hotel manager had an emergency and couldn't do the interview. I was sent home again, waiting for them to get in touch. I heard nothing before 11 AM that day – imagine if I'd traveled a long way for this! I waited another week without any news. I finally emailed the assistant manager, and she replied that they'd promoted someone internally and the position wasn't available. She mentioned this the day after I saw they were still advertising for a receptionist online. This was odd, given she had initially recommended the role to me and wanted me to interview with the hotel manager. I'm not sure how they usually recruit, but this doesn't seem like the way a major hotel brand should operate.
- Tell me about a time you delivered great customer service.
- What made you leave your previous role?
Receptionist
It started off as a pretty informal group thing, not really an interview at first. There were 9 of us for one job. They told us about the company and the role, then we each shared a few facts about ourselves and picked who spoke next. After that, we talked to someone individually for a bit, away from the group, and they asked some typical interview questions. I got the feeling they'd already decided who they wanted during the group part though. I didn't really get a chance to talk much about myself.
- How do you handle receiving praise or a compliment?
Receptionist
I had an in-person interview, they were friendly and made me feel at ease. The questions were about hospitality and situations encountered. I have not heard back from them yet whether I got the job.
