Operations Manager
The interview started with a recruiter call to gauge my fit for the role. After that, I received an Excel dataset from their initial business operations. I had to analyze the data, discuss business implications like customer demographics and merchant insights, and propose business decisions based on this information. This analysis was to be presented in a PowerPoint or similar format, easy for anyone to understand. Upon passing this stage, I had two consecutive 30-minute interviews. The first one was relatively straightforward, asking behavioral questions like past experiences leading teams or managing projects. The second interview was challenging and where I felt I struggled. It involved scenario-based questions specifically related to the Dashmart business. My preparation for this part was limited to a short video they sent, and the questions were unlike anything I'd prepared for.
- What factors would you take into account if we planned to launch a Dashmart in a specific location?
- How would our P&L statement be affected if we transitioned from a drive-in Dashmart to a grocery store model?
- What operational adjustments would be necessary if we extended our operating hours from closing at midnight to closing at 4 am?
Supervisor
The interview process kicked off with a phone chat with the recruiter. Then, I had two interviews with my potential peers. After that, there was a case study to work through. Finally, I had two more interviews with the senior leaders of the department.
- Can you share an experience where you had to resolve an issue without having all the necessary details?
Operations Manager
The interview process is pretty standard — recruiter screening, hiring manager interview, case study, and a final panel. However, in my experience, this has been one of the most arrogant tech companies I’ve interviewed with (and I’ve interviewed at FANG-level companies). I’ve gone through four different role processes here — a total of nine interviews — and in almost every case, the managers came across as condescending, acting as though what they’re doing is beyond the capability of anyone else but realistically, they have used bandaids to scale and find themselves overworked because they have failed to standardized processes. You don’t feel valued at any stage of the process. Recruiters often take weeks to respond and may not acknowledge follow-up messages — this happened to me multiple times with different recruiters. Compensation is also under market despite their claims that it’s “competitive.” I also have friends currently working there who are actively leaving due to what they describe as a toxic environment. Based on my experience, I believe them.
