Circuit Design Engineer
Submitted my resume online and then got an email for a phone interview. The phone interview got straight into business and they started asking technical questions. After that, I was selected for an on-site interview with 7 engineers for 1:1 rounds. Some rounds involved drawing waveforms for digital circuits, a C questions sheet with 5 questions on binary trees, ++var vs var++, and sorting. Other rounds asked about my resume and research work, in-depth CMOS questions like why PMOS is slower than NMOS and computing outputs of circuits with NMOS pass gates, and discussions about the company with the Director. Lastly, they asked about flip flops, setup hold time, and max frequency for sequential and combinational circuits.
- Could you draw the waveforms for these digital circuits given the basic gates and their delays?
- Can you explain why PMOS is slower than NMOS, and also compute the output of a circuit with complex NMOS pass gate connections?
- We have a C questions sheet with 5 questions covering topics like binary trees, the difference between ++var and var++, and sorting algorithms.
Circuit Design Engineer
I got called in for an interview. They told me it would take maybe 4 hours, but it actually finished in a little over an hour. First, the HR manager, a lady, asked me to talk about some of my favorite projects, which I did. Then, we moved on to the next part, the technical round. They asked me some questions about Verilog, to write the code for a D flip-flop, and some general VLSI basics.
- Could you elaborate on your projects?
- Tell me about your experience with Verilog.
- Could you code a D flip-flop for me?
Circuit Design Engineer
I got a call from the company after submitting my resume and they scheduled the on-site interview right away. Several people from different teams interviewed me. The first person asked me about inverters and NAND gates, specifically how to size them for equal rise and fall times, and then asked some verilog questions. The second person showed me diagrams of four circuits and asked about the output when the clock signal arrives, and also asked about passgate flip-flops. The third interviewer focused on C programming and gave me a written test.
- What is the inverter size?
- How is a NAND gate transformed into an inverter?
- Explain the function of the verilog code you wrote for a D-flipflop.
