First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dollar Tree.
Buyer
Went through 3-4 interviews with different department managers for the multiple openings, then one with the head of department. All interviews were over Skype and seemed pretty standard. They really focused on how much travel and in-office time was needed for the positions.
- Can you share an instance where you looked for ways to improve things?
Allocation Analyst
I applied for a job and interviewed, but didn't get the initial role. The HR lady was super nice though and referred me for another position within Dollar Tree. I applied again. Since it was during COVID and I was living out of state, all my interviews were over the phone and done circuit style back-to-back. Some of the interviewers gave off weird vibes. I felt like my answers were dismissed, like they'd say 'Oh, but you're not familiar with THIS system,' and even when I tried to spin it positively, they seemed unimpressed. One guy kept mentioning how 'family friendly' the company was, which felt harsh given my situation. I figured I didn't get the job. But then the HR lady called me, I was honest about feeling uncomfortable with some comments, she apologized, said the interviewers actually loved me, and offered me the role. The interview process was fast and fair, and the HR people are lovely, but the actual questions were tough and their demeanor was harsh.
- What motivated your decision to apply to Dollar Tree?
- Could you discuss your experience with the XYZ system?
- Describe a situation where your business faced difficulties and outline the steps you took to improve its performance.
Procurement Analyst
I started by filling out an online application. Then, an HR rep gave me a quick phone interview. After that, I had a longer phone chat with the hiring manager. They then sent me an assessment to complete. Later, HR let me know I was chosen to come in for in-person interviews with two hiring managers and their boss. Following those meetings, I got an offer, which I accepted.
- How would you communicate report findings differently to an executive versus a colleague or business owner?
