The process started with a recruiter/HR reaching out on LinkedIn. It then went through several interview rounds to assess job fit and cultural alignment. The final stage involved a two-round demo/presentation. I had to learn their APIs and product on my own to build a demo, rather than presenting something of my choice. They provided a specific scenario for the demo. I spent a lot of time studying their API, workflow, product, and customer success stories. During the demo, I faced very specific business-related questions that would typically be covered during onboarding, and I was criticized for not having enough detailed answers. Then, I was asked to do a second demo to cover aspects that were supposedly 'missing' from the first, even though they weren't part of the initial scenario. Despite my best efforts, answering these questions was difficult without proper product training and business knowledge. I felt that the hiring team could have at least sent an email to inform me of their decision, given the significant effort candidates are expected to put in. Instead, I got an automated rejection email and my follow-up email asking for feedback was ignored.

I spoke with the Sr. Director of Solution Engineering first. He asked why I was looking to move, and I told him I was laid off. He was like, 'Oh, let's see if we can help.' Then I had a phone interview with the hiring manager a few days later. She was super nice, maybe too nice. At the end of our call, she warned me that the onboarding was really tough and involved a lot of learning. Weirdly, later that day, I saw her post on LinkedIn asking for referrals for the exact job I was interviewing for. Felt like a real slap in the face.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process was well coordinated from start to finish. I had a phone screen with a recruiter, a phone interview with the hiring manager, a mock demo followed by a panel interview, and a final interview with a director on the SE team. I was paired with an SE mentor to provide an hour's worth of guidance in preparation for the mock demo. Everyone was down to earth, and the interviews mostly felt like a conversation rather than following an interview script. It was evident that the people I spoke with loved DocuSign which made the entire process exciting.
