Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DLR.
Software Engineer
The interview usually kicks off with a greeting outside the actual meeting room. Typically, you'll arrive at the company and check in at the reception. Then, you'll either be shown to a room or picked up. As soon as you meet the HR folks, you'll introduce yourself briefly with a handshake and your name. Try to avoid the not-so-dynamic 'dead fish' handshake and instead, offer a firm, dry grip. This is also when the first small talk happens. They might ask things like, 'How was your journey here?', 'Did you find the place okay?', or 'Lovely weather today, isn't it?'. You should respond warmly and chat a bit – partly to score some likeability points and partly to help yourself relax.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What are your salary expectations?
- Can you tell me about your portfolio projects?
Software Engineer
It was mostly easy. After I applied online, they called me for a phone interview. It was about 45 minutes, and we just talked about university courses and my final project. They also asked some questions about the technologies I used on the project to make sure everything was real and consistent. It was a nice, straightforward chat. They accepted me right after the interview, but gave me some days to decide. Then it took a while for everything to get finalized.
- Can you tell me about your final project and describe it?
- How was your final project completed?
- What technologies did you use for your final project and why?
Software Engineer
It was an interesting talk. Unfortunately, no feedback and I also didn't feel valued during the talk. They asked me to prepare and present a 10-minute presentation. After that, a few questions and a small tour.
- Tell me about the projects you've worked on so far.
