It was a 3 stage process. First was a very high level overview of my background and previous work. Then there was a technical session where I had to present one of my previous works and answer general programming language questions. Finally, I had a session with the head of the department.

I applied as an international and after a 2-month review, I had an online interview. They started by presenting their work, then explained the role and expectations. I introduced myself and discussed my career. They asked me a quiz question. The interviewers were polite and informative. Two weeks later, I received an offer via email. We then discussed details over several emails, setting a start date. They contacted administration about salary and requested my diplomas. After they said the documents were helpful, I got an email saying I was no longer considered due to export control and security regulations, as a national research institution. I asked if this was due to my nationality, and they said they didn't know and apologized. The process took a month and ended suddenly without clear reasons, which was very disappointing. I feel discriminated against, especially since they knew my nationality from the start.
