It was a typical process. Started with a kick off call, then a phone interview, followed by a mock project or assignment, and then a final round. Overall, it was a positive experience and everyone I met was great. The process was quick and transparent.

I went through two interviews: first a phone screen, then a more technical interview. The first interview was pretty jarringly different from what I expected. The interviewer was late and spent a lot of time on a presentation about the company and benefits. I found some parts confusing, like when I asked about what 'Marketing First' really means and they just repeated the phrase without a good explanation. They asked some questions from the presentation and some 'off script' ones, but the interviewer didn't seem ready to go off script and asked some strange questions. For instance, they asked how I'd rate my skills with numbers and data, which felt odd for a senior role with a 4+ year experience requirement, especially since I have two math degrees. After that call, I emailed asking for the slides but got no reply. The second interview was more personal and technical, with standard questions. A few days later, I got a standard rejection email. Overall, the interviews weren't unfair or super hard, but the whole experience felt too corporate and focused on selling the company image rather than getting to know me. I still find that 'familiarity with numbers' question kind of funny.

The whole interview process took about three weeks. I was kept informed at each step. I saw some bad reviews on Glassdoor about the company culture, but I decided to move forward anyway. I applied on Linkedin and heard back from the recruiter pretty quickly. She was great, never rushed me and even let me schedule a follow-up call to ask questions. After a couple of recruiter calls, I met with the recruiter and one of the owners. That conversation went really well, very back and forth. About two weeks later, I followed up and was told they were on a hiring freeze until December and to check back in November. I suspect this wasn't true because I've seen them post a lot for SEO roles since then and haven't heard back after following up. Honestly, I think I probably avoided a bad situation.
