Recruiter
After applying, I was contacted quickly, and the interview felt conversational and like we connected well. I followed up the same day with a thank you and my excitement to hear back, but I was never followed back up with. As a recruiter, this was enough for me to know I am not interested in working for a company that ghosts candidates. I also found the "training period" to be a big red flag. I have never heard of this in an agency setting and would never advise someone to accept a role that you could "fail".
- Describe your approach to sourcing.
- How do you handle challenging hiring managers?
Paid Media Strategist
it was a pretty intensive interview process - there were 2 interviews with the hiring manager, then an interview with the person the job would report to. After that, I had to do a presentation of an account audit. Finally, there was an interview with the COO to finalize everything.
- Could you answer some technical and performance marketing related questions focusing on specific platforms and tactics?
- Can you discuss your strategy approach?
- Tell me about your general work experience.
Motion Designer
I only had one interview, which was okay. I thought the interview was friendly, but had what I consider unnecessary questions. I was later met with great disappointment with how the process was going to go. As a motion designer, I find it extremely disrespectful for companies to ask you for a task or a test. As designers and animators, we have already spent much time working on our portfolio, demo reel, cover letter, etc. For a company to ask you to do a final task or for you to do a specific type of animation so you can be considered for the role is extremely rude. Especially since your work should already speak for itself, this clearly shows what kind of company they are. I was also later asked if I had any examples of previous worked focused in certain areas and if I could send them examples. Which I also find unnecessary. The only two reasons you will not find a certain type of work in someone's portfolio is because either they haven't done it or they are not proud of that work.
- Regarding previous employment, did you ever work in high school?
- Could you provide examples of prior work that focused on specific areas?
Motion Graphics Designer
Applied on the website and heard back two weeks later for a quick 15 minute phone chat with the intern hiring manager to talk about my background and school stuff. They set up the next interview right away, which was on zoom. This one went deeper into the role and what comes next. It's a chance to ask questions and learn more about the company. After that, I got a small motion graphic project for a fake company, due in a week. I had to present it to the head of video and the intern hiring manager. Everything happened pretty fast, and they were super nice and helpful, especially since it was over the holidays, keeping me updated on when they'd decide.
- Regarding the video project, how much time did you invest in it, and what was your methodology?
- What are your long-term aspirations as a motion graphic designer?
