The interview wasn't the usual generic questions. It gave me the impression the team is dull and not fun to work with. The interviewers seemed to think they work for Tesla or some genius brand. Relax, it's just an energy company with typical number crunching, so take it easy. I was hoping it would end sooner as I already felt I didn't want to be a part of this team within the first 20 minutes, but I ended up wasting one hour.

I applied online and heard back about 3 weeks later. They wanted me to come in for a morning of interviews with 4 people. Before that, I had to fill out a really detailed application with my personal info, SSN, addresses from the last 7 years, work history, and references. It took a while to complete and send back. The interviews themselves were alright; they seemed really impressed with my background and thought I was a good fit. The office is open-plan, which I don't really like. They never got back to me, so I had to reach out to an HR person I hadn't met a couple of weeks later. I was told they were still interviewing the first group and would let me know. I didn't expect another round after such a long process. I followed up again weeks later. I figured I wasn't getting the job, but felt they could have at least told me something after I spent time on their process and provided all my info. I got a generic rejection email in the end. Turns out this is typical for Direct Energy after you spend 3 hours there, impress them, and give them lots of personal and background details. It's disrespectful. You guys are disrespectful and I won't be using your services. Good luck with customer service and pricing. You're making it hard for your sales people.

It was mostly questions about my specific experience and some behavioral ones, where I had to give concrete examples. The vibe was friendly and collaborative, seeming to focus on how I'd fit the company culture. I talked with four team members and the manager. The whole thing, from setting it up to getting the offer, was done in under 10 days.
