First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dimagi.
Field Manager
After applying, I got an automated HR email asking me to create a sample app for the CommCare forum. Once I finished the app design, they reached out for a Skype interview. It was pretty chill and just a 'walk me through your resume' kind of chat. About three weeks later, they contacted me for another round. During this second round, they mentioned that Dimagi offers Field Managers around $15,000 USD per year. I decided to drop out of the running then because that salary wouldn't be enough to cover living expenses, student loans, savings, and so on. The plan was to do a case study in the third round.
- Can you tell me about your ideal work environment?
- What are your strategies for handling extensive solo travel for extended periods?
- Describe a time you had to persuade someone to do something against their initial wishes.
ICT Manager
The first step was a Take Home Test. I had to write instructions for a rural woman on how to create an SMS and then, after watching tutorials on Dimagi's CommCare app, do some app development tasks based on instructions. It was like doing complex Excel formulas. Then, there was a 1.5 hour Skype interview. It had general questions, case studies, and more app development. I didn't see reviews mentioning the app development part being tested further, and it wasn't in the invite. Some customization tasks weren't even in the tutorials. Knowing this beforehand might have helped.
- Besides this role, what other jobs are you considering?
- Can you share an instance where you failed to meet a deadline?
- How would you handle a situation where a client requests application changes close to the scheduled go-live date with very little time remaining?
QA Automation Engineer
The interview process included a general telephonic call, followed by an assignment to create a test script for their web application, and then a technical interview focusing on that script and related topics. The entire process was managed punctually. I felt I performed well in the first two rounds, successfully completing the script task. The technical interview also went smoothly with no unanswered questions. Unfortunately, I was not selected and was informed without any feedback, despite being confident about receiving an offer. My overall experience was satisfactory, but receiving feedback for improvement would have made it better.
- What are your thoughts on automation?
- Do you have any general questions about manual testing?
Software Engineering Manager
The interview process was quite long, or rather had several steps spread out from each other. The HR interview was alright, it went through the benefits, salary, etc which was below market but this was a fully remote role so you can probably do it as a second gig. I went through 2 engineering interviews after that. One was alright, or rather - sold the company quite well. The follow-up interview was a bit weird. One of the interviewers had a similar position but seemed incompetent, unprepared and unnecessarily condescending. Most of the questions were scenario-based, the type you find on Google but not necessarily related to the landscape in which the role would have been in. My overall impression is that this is a good place to work as a secondary employment source. The work doesn’t seem to complex and the processes aren’t as defined but they do seem to be quite a close-knit team of individuals who have been mostly there for a while. Overall, I would say this is an okay employer depending on what one’s options are.
- How would you handle managing an employee who reports to you but is assigned to projects in a different team?
- What are your thoughts on taking on additional responsibilities in areas like product and design?
