The interview process was pretty straightforward. I applied about a month before the first call. It was very friendly and welcoming. I spoke with the director, and then with the lead and senior QA engineers. All interviews were direct and friendly, getting right to the point, without awkward small talk beforehand, which helped ease the nerves. I got an offer about a week after my last of three interviews.

I had an interview that wasn't very formal, in a private setting. Then I did a professional test in front of the head QA team and a Senior software engineer. First, they asked me about internet stuff like changing IP on a computer or phone, what DNS is and how to change it, and what I would check if I had to QA check YouTube. After about half an hour of that, the Senior engineer asked me basic questions in SQL, C++, and Java. I didn't have to write code, just talk through the solutions.

First, I talked to the recruiter, who was nice. Then, I had some Skype interviews with other QAs and a PM. The last interview was in their Austin office. It's a pretentious office. I had an interview with a developer and a DevOps person, and the developer was a real elitist with a European accent. It seemed like they were ready to offer me the job, even though it was just an analyst role, not senior. I guess I would have been doing CI Admin, auto-scripted testing, and config management. The developer interviewed me like it was a development job, going through my resume and trying to 'gotcha' me. I think I got 80% of the questions right, but he focused on the 20% I wasn't sure about without the internet. He seemed to think my resume was pretentious and didn't get the difference between user and admin skill levels. He asked me about stuff I haven't done in ten years, like puppet or ansible, which isn't really necessary for QA. I mean, I edited puppet manifests when I had to for a project, but I never implemented it from scratch. Same with Ansible, I contributed to a playbook but it was a team effort. This guy clearly has too big of an ego for that. Happy I don't have to work with him. He seemed like a JP from 'Grandma's Boy'.
