First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Diamonds Direct.
Merchandise Receiving Specialist
I had an initial 10-minute Zoom screening with the recruiter, Kate Popelka. After that, I interviewed with two senior managers, Limor and Chrystal. It was a bit strange because they both attended the interview. Unfortunately, they spent more time talking about the role than asking about my background, and it seemed like they hadn't properly reviewed my resume beforehand. Although they were in the early stages of hiring for this position, their communication after the interview was quite disappointing. I followed up almost a month after the second interview, and it took the recruiter over two more weeks to respond.
- What makes you want to move away from a management position?
Sales Associate
So basically, the interviewer told a story about hiring a 25-year-old, mentioning they usually don't hire that young, which was a bit funny since I was 22. They said I wouldn't get an offer because the store was just opening and they didn't want to over-hire, even though they're still hiring there almost a year later. They explained the pay is a draw against commission. You get a base pay plus commission, but the base is also part of your commission. You train for three months without selling, still getting the base pay. Once you start selling, you don't get commission until you've earned back what you were paid during training. If you don't sell enough to cover your pay, you have to write a check at the end of the year, though they said that's never happened.
- Can you share how you've helped your current store succeed?
Receptionist
I applied online and they called me to interview over the phone. Once I passed the phone interview they told me to go to the store in person. At the store the interview took about 2 hours because they had me wait to introduce me to people. After the very long interview that I thought went really well (they even said I already felt like part of the family) they completely ghosted me.
- What are your strengths?
- Tell me more about that.
Diamond Expert
I had a phone chat with the recruiter. Then I had an in-person interview with the General Manager. The second in-person interview was with the General Manager and the Store Manager. My third interview was with the General Manager and the VP. It all took around 2 months.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What drives you to come to work every day?
