The interview process was pleasant and easy going. After a first round phone interview, candidates who advanced were given a test project. The whole process felt fair and professional.
- Can you describe your design process?

I applied on their careers page and then got a call and email from HR the next day. They told me I'd have to do a quick aptitude test during the interview, but no take-home test was mentioned. On the interview day, the Creative Director and Design Lead met me. Actually, the Creative Director was out, so the Creative VP stepped in. The interview lasted about an hour. It was mostly the Creative VP asking questions from a list while the Design Lead took notes. They asked about my experience and abilities. They also talked about the company and its products since their website wasn't very informative. The interview concluded with a 3-question aptitude test done on the spot. I didn't do great on the test because I was tired, and they noted I might lack logic. Before I left, they gave me a take-home design test due in a week. I finished it and a bonus question the next day to send back with my thank you email. About a week later, HR emailed saying I wasn't a good fit. I felt they could have done a phone screen first to filter out candidates. The co-sharing office was quiet, and I didn't get a feel for the workplace culture. The job requirements were confusing; they posted for a creative role but seemed to want someone who could just apply designs to templates quickly, which wasn't what I focused on when asked about my design process.
- Are you okay with designing for a product you don't believe in?
- Would you create "click-bait" designs for products with questionable content?

So my interview process was the same as others, but I first passed an initial interview with the design lead and creative director, and then completed an aptitude test. After that, they sent me a design exercise which I submitted a couple days later. About 2-3 hours after submission, HR reached out to get my references. I thought that was it, but nope. Once my references sent in their feedback, HR wanted to schedule a final interview. It turns out I was one of only two candidates for this job. The final interview went well, the interviewer was nice and we connected. I sent thank you emails afterwards and HR said they'd let me know soon. A week went by, then two, and I followed up. I was ghosted. It's surprising for a company that claims to be 'international' with offices in major cities worldwide, I expected better professionalism. Even if there were only two candidates, a simple email saying no would've been sufficient, no need to be fake. It explains the bad Glassdoor reviews for DFO. Honestly, I was already hesitant after reading a review about the company selling fake products.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
