First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dexters.
Estate Agent
The interview was friendly, casual, and communicated well. I only had one interview, which took place at the main office in central London. The questions during the interview were mostly about customer service and sales, with a few questions about personality traits as well.
- What motivates your interest in becoming a trainee estate agent?
Negotiator
The interview process includes a brief 5-minute introductory meeting with various directors and managers within the Dexters umbrella. Following this, if a manager particularly likes you, they will invite you for a one-on-one interview. If you or the manager feel it's not the right fit, you might be sent to interview at other offices.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your career goals, perhaps sharing an example of a goal you've successfully achieved?
- Tell me about yourself. What are your aspirations? Share an instance of a goal you've met.
- Describe yourself. What objectives do you have? Give an example of a goal you accomplished.
Property Manager
The first interview was a phone call with the head of HR, and it was pretty straightforward. The second interview was in person at their office with two department heads. It was very technical for a junior position. The amount of knowledge they were looking for would typically require a senior person, which didn't align with the salary offered.
- What are the basic technical aspects of legal compliance and tenant management?
Sales Negotiator
The whole process has left me very confused. It spanned over a month and included 4 interviews, all with positive feedback, but then I was completely ghosted. It felt like such a waste of both my time and theirs. Initially, I had a phone interview. Then, I went to Fulham for an in-person interview with Charlie and Charlie, who were nice. They mentioned there weren't any openings in Fulham at the time, so they passed my details along to the west London team. Following that, I had a Zoom interview with the manager of the west London offices. He was pleasant and thought Acton might be a good fit. My next interview was in person at one of their other companies, which they own, in Acton. This interview also went well, and the interviewer said he'd be in touch. He later called, expressing interest in hiring me but needed to 'look at some things'. Two weeks passed with no word, so I emailed him. He replied that he was looking into a role that needed someone and would get back to me. He never did. It was a total waste of time and just bizarre. If they didn't want me, they should have just said so, but every time I asked, they'd say they were 'just waiting' for something. I wasn't living in London then and spent a lot of money and time traveling for interviews that led to nothing. I wish I hadn't bothered. The hours seem awful, and the basic pay is very low.
- What qualities do you believe are essential for a successful estate agent?
