First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Detroit Business Consulting.
Account Representative
The interview process was pretty different from what I've done before. First, there was an initial chat to get to know me, and they asked about myself and my future aspirations. Then, for the second round, I met up with an account manager for coffee. They went into detail about the role, the timeline, pay, and benefits, which really helped me understand my part in the company and allowed me to ask more in-depth questions. The account manager was super friendly and informative. Shortly after that, in the third round, I sat down with an assistant manager to go over the previous discussion and talk about my path to success.
- What drives your success?
- Tell me about your future goals.

I applied online and got a call back the next day. The first interview was the same day. I went to the office and did a survey about my interest. The secretary and other staff seemed really nice. About four other people were also waiting for interviews. The assistant manager interviewed me, and it was pretty quick. She said I'd know within an hour if I'd get a second interview. I did get the call, and the second interview was scheduled for the next day. The second round involved shadowing the top two account reps all day. They were cool and told me honestly about the company and their jobs. At the end of the day, I filled out another survey about my thoughts on the role and company. Then, I had a quick third interview with a higher-level assistant manager to go over that survey. He told me I'd hear back within the hour if I got the job. I did get an offer, but I turned it down. Everyone was friendly, and the office had a 'work hard, play hard' vibe, with mentions of team sports and hanging out. A typical day would include a morning meeting, about six hours in my sales territory, and an end-of-day meeting.
- What are you seeking in a company?
- How do you stand out from other applicants?
- Could you share three of your most significant strengths?
Account Representative
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. I got a call about a week before the first interview, and the recruiter asked about my goals, like wanting full-time work and career growth. After that, I had a preliminary interview with more general questions about my work ethic, experience, and education. I heard back within a few hours about a second interview scheduled for two days later. The second interview was more involved. We had to take a whole day off work (9:30 am to 5 pm), which is a bit of an expense. They weren't clear about what we'd be doing, but it turned out to be job shadowing where we observed a consultant. While the people were nice, many seemed overly focused on money and had big egos. They were secretive with information, and when another candidate and I pushed for more details, the consultant got defensive. I wasn't happy with how it went and actually left before the end of the day.
