Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Desjardins.
Insurance Agent
The interview experience was great. The Desjardins team was really nice and made it not feel like a big competition even though it was a group interview. I found out I'd be moving on to background checks within a few hours, and the background check only took 2-5 business days to clear. Basically, they asked the 'tell me about yourself' question and then 2 follow-up questions based on my answers. Then we did 2 group problem-solving activities based on an insurance situation.

Insurance Agent
It was a three step interview process. Started with a small group interview to get to know you, then some online assessments, and finally a group interview. The group interviews were pretty straightforward with simple questions. The first one went well. The second one was supposed to be two and a half hours as stated in the email, but it ended up being almost four hours. The groups have about 5-7 people, and people tend to talk a lot to impress the hiring managers. If you have insurance knowledge and education, they really want you. I got invited to the final interview before I even finished the online assessments. After they offer you a position, you still need to talk to a linguist to test your English skills and get 2 references. It's a very long and drawn-out process that doesn't feel very personal.
- You have to sell random products or services to the interviewers.
Insurance Agent
Applied on their website via indeed link, got a phone interview in 2 days. Then they invited me for an in-person group interview which was a week later. The group interview had 2 managers and 2 HR people, plus other candidates. It wasn't super hard, mostly scenarios and impromptu sales pitches. They also tested our phone skills. They let us know about the job offer a week or few days after. We also had to bring an item representing ourselves to present.
- What value would you bring to the company?
- What makes you the best candidate for this role?
- Describe your approach to establishing a connection with a customer.
