I applied and then got an email for an interview on a platform where I had to answer questions by video. After that, I received a paid technical test, which was a nice touch. The test itself wasn't too difficult, which I appreciated. It's a bit odd not to have spoken to anyone after several stages, losing that personal connection. This lack of interaction made it hard to get my questions answered about the contract and pay early on to see if it was a good fit for both sides. I haven't heard back yet.

The process was pretty unique. First I applied on the website and answered some design questions, then a 2- hr design challenge. Few days later, I got an invite to speak with the CEO. However, I have heard nothing since then. I got ghosted even though i tried to follow up with the company. The hiring process went from very warm and friendly to extremely cold.

This place isn't really for entry-level folks or those focused on DEI initiatives. If you're okay with unpaid design tests and your personality meshes well with their project selection criteria, it might work out. It felt a bit like a red flag, the kind of process that tends to create exclusive groups and limit viewpoints. Since it's a platform/collective, I'd suggest seeing how things go and not putting all your eggs in this basket; focus your efforts on other applications. Their commitment to community doesn't seem to mean much when they implicitly exclude parts of that community by starting with a quiz that assumes people can't grow and should have already been given the perfect environment. I have to admit, it made me hesitant to even apply because the questions reminded me of those used by older design firms and retailers to screen candidates. Too much so. It might have filtered out talented individuals who could bring diverse perspectives and valuable experiences in globally-informed design. Plus, it could screen out those who best understand innovation and how to avoid the less obvious ways privilege is reinforced, excluding market segments. It was disappointing that, after more research and asking around, this place just seemed to fit the mold of other design collectives. The actual interview process was pretty standard, but be cautious to manage your time effectively. I mean that literally, and I don't have much to say about what it might be like if you've figured out your career path late and know exactly what to say to fit in. Maybe that's what you're after.
