First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deputy.
Product Director
It was a long and drawn-out interview process, with extra steps added along the way. They progressed 5+ candidates to the final round, which shows appalling decision-making and was a complete waste of many candidates time. Good companies have a concise interview process, with set steps & timelines to manage expectations. They also typically don’t progress more than 3 candidates to the final round out of respect for their time & effort. Just a heads up as an employee.

This was an awful 6 week interview process. I spoke to 7 different people and had 9 meetings in total, taking up 5 hours of my time. Because of the time difference, a lot of calls were in the evenings, sometimes until 9pm. I got a verbal offer from the TA person and was asked for references. I said I wouldn't give current manager details until a written offer, as it's not the norm in the UK. I gave details for two previous managers and had to tell them I had a job offer. After they filled out a form about my working style, the TA person called them for a character reference. The next day at 4pm on Friday, they told me they were 'pausing the role' because they needed to rethink what they wanted, saying 'you know how these things go'. I was completely caught off guard. I'd suggest being sure about the role before putting candidates through 5 hours of interviews and asking for references from their old managers.

It was great to hear you found the interview process useful and friendly. I totally agree that simplifying and streamlining the process to make it more lightweight is an excellent suggestion, as it can help reduce stress for candidates and improve efficiency for both sides. Here are some ideas to improve the process while keeping it lightweight.

Director, Customer Success
It was a 4 round interview process, that was supposed to have 3 more rounds. The first four interviews went well and I got positive feedback from the recruiter, hiring manager, VP of Sales, and Snr Director. I then moved to the final stages, but after one day, I was told the role was being paused. The next day, I received a rejection. The messages were really mixed throughout, and it was a poor experience, especially given it's a workforce management company. The role was then removed and replaced by a Senior Director role that's been open for 6 months.
