First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Denny's.
Restaurant Manager
I put in my application for Denny's through a headhunter. I didn't know it was for Denny's until the franchise owner rang me up and said he was really impressed with my resume and wanted to set up an interview with the area director. Then, on the day of the interview, the headhunter called to give me some tips. I met the area director, he looked at my resume and asked why I wanted to leave my current job. Apparently, I stood out from the other applicants because my background is in restaurant management where I have to cook, prep, and be hands-on, not just be an office manager. They offered me the job about a week later, and I accepted it a few days after that.

Manager
So for a manager role, the interview process is a bit different. They want to check if I can get along with upper management and team leaders. They also want to see if I'm too rigid or too passive, but still confident in my abilities. It's a bit trickier for them to gauge my work ethic as a manager. I'd say to anyone applying, just go out there and do your best, because managers are looking for the best person and want to see your confidence.
- When I put something on my resume, can you technically only verify what's already there?
- Is it true that they're not supposed to give out information?
- Let me tell you a secret about what they are really not supposed to do.
Manager
I got there early and then waited 45 minutes to even be noticed. During that time, two people who just walked in got interviewed. When I finally got to the interview, it was ridiculous. I have management experience, but the interviewer tried to treat me like I was looking for an entry-level position.
- What are your salary expectations?
