The interview process was pretty straightforward, mostly basic computer questions. I had one chat with the hiring manager and another with a technical support analyst, which was sort of like a technical interview. Be aware that there's a good amount of travel involved, covering various sites across the Puget Sound region, so expect to be on the move a lot. You'll also get exposure to different kinds of organizations like hospitals, schools, and universities. There's a shot at becoming a full-time employee with one of their partner companies down the line.

After I applied, the recruiter reached out and suggested I look at a different role, then sent my info to the VP of Client Services. I then had an in-person meeting with the Director of OSS and the VP of Client Services to talk about the job and how my background fit. After that, I had a Technical Phone interview with an Engineer. He went over some things on my resume to check my experience. He also told me about his time with Denali, which was good to hear. After a few days of emails, they made an offer, but it needed approval. I made a counter-offer, and they accepted and approved it.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you discuss your technical background and what you consider your main strengths and areas for improvement?
  • Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses, relating them to your technical experience.

Behavioral Technical

A recruiting agency was used to find me this management role at Denali Advanced Integration. My first interview was with the hiring manager and his boss where I got the usual questions about management style, firing, and handling change. About a week and a half later, I had a second interview with two potential direct reports, again with standard questions. After a few days, the agency let me know Denali wanted a third interview. We had to reschedule this one twice, but eventually, 4 weeks after the first interview, I met with the hiring manager again. He dug deeper into how I'd handle specific situations, which I thought was a good discussion. He said I'd hear back in 2 days, but by day 3 I hadn't, so I checked with the recruiter. No answer yet. Another 6 days went by, and the recruiter said he still hadn't heard anything and it was likely they chose someone else. While I'm okay not getting the offer, I'm a bit annoyed Denali didn't tell me directly after I went there three times. They also seemed unsure about having employee morale events and regular reviews, which made me question the culture, though they said they want to improve. I feel like communication and respect were lacking.

Had an initial HR screen that lasted about 15 minutes and it went really well; the recruiter seemed invested in my success. The subsequent interview also went well, with questions fitting the job description. The role is unusual because they consider candidates with no formal education if they have QA experience. There wasn't a technical or LeetCode-style interview. The interview was 20% behavioral and 80% focused on testing methodologies. It's crucial to prepare for open-ended testing questions like 'Imagine we're designing a common household object. How would you test it?' Failure on this type of question likely means no job offer. The work-life balance sounds comparable to Amazon, but without the same compensation, so it might have been a fortunate outcome.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Regarding accessibility, what would be your testing approach?
