First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deltak.
Enrollment Coordinator
I got into this role through a staffing agency who did an initial interview. Once they thought I was a good match, they sent my info to a corporate recruiter. I had a 30-minute phone chat with her the next week. After that, she suggested a second phone interview with someone from the office. That one was also 30 minutes and happened the week after. Then, the next week, I had 4 separate 30-minute interviews in person at their Oak Brook office with different team members. About a week after those, they told me they wanted to move forward and would be doing a background and reference check. A few days later, the staffing agency called with a job offer. I started about a week after that. It was a good, but pretty drawn-out, process.
- All my conversations were pretty standard interview-like. Everyone was open to answering my questions and they asked me typical interview questions.
- The challenging part of this whole thing was just the number of interviews I had to go through - 6 total.
Director of Sales
A third-party recruiter reached out about a Director of Sales role at Deltak. The first interview was a one-hour phone call, after which I was recommended to proceed. Next, I had an hour-long phone interview with an internal recruiter, who also moved me forward. This led to an hour-long meeting with the hiring manager, where I spent 30 minutes on my background and 30 minutes discussing the role and company. The hiring manager expressed interest and scheduled a follow-up. In the second meeting with the hiring manager, we discussed my approach to three specific business objectives, followed by a tour and more company details. I then sent a thank you note and awaited the recruiter to schedule the fourth interview. In the meantime, I spent significant time preparing a business plan based on the manager's objectives. Two and a half weeks later, I received a form rejection email from the recruiter. I found it disappointing, especially after the hiring manager indicated I'd be brought back, and given the time invested in the business plan. There were also some discrepancies between recruiter and hiring manager information regarding company size (500-700 vs. 300 employees), my role (one of multiple sales directors vs. the only one), and team size (regional team of 8-10 direct reports vs. only that many in the entire department).
- All of the questions were very straight forward.
Partnership Director
I was contacted by an internal Deltak/Wiley recruiter on Linkedin who asked me to submit my resume. I had two 30-minute phone screens with the recruiter where they reviewed my resume, qualifications, and salary expectations. Next, I moved to an interview with the hiring manager. I agreed to this interview even though I'd read negative reviews about Deltak management on Glassdoor. The interview started two weeks later, which was a red flag. The manager began by saying he didn't have my resume, which was another red flag. He then conducted an interview with condescending remarks and antagonistic questions. It was a waste of my time, and I now have a negative impression of the company's leadership. His behavior suggested the recruiter hadn't properly briefed him on my candidacy before scheduling. The position has been open since July 2014.
- Tell me about standard stock.
Program Manager
The interview process is quite drawn out, with several interviews happening about a week apart. It started with a phone call from the company Recruiter, then a phone interview with a Director of Admissions. After that, there was a voicemail audition, followed by an in-person meeting with another Director of Admissions. Then came another voicemail audition, and finally, phone interviews with both the Asst VP of Admissions and the VP of admissions. The questions were very practical, really focusing on ensuring you understand the job and can fit into the role and culture.
- Could you role play a sales call, either in your current job or how you envision it in this role?
