First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dell Technologies.
Technical Support Engineer
Had 2 interviews. First one was an intro to the role, discussed salary expectations. Second was a competency-based interview, focusing on general competencies with a bit of a technical angle. Both were with two managers over Zoom, but it might be in-person in the future since people are returning to the office.

Technical Support Representative
So the interview process involved a few steps. First, there was a recruiter call to go over the basics. Then, a phone screen followed by a technical screen where they asked a bunch of questions about how I'd handle different technical issues and customer interactions, including problem-solving, prioritizing tickets, specific scenarios like email or malware access, explaining tech to non-techies, dealing with angry customers, and ensuring I understood issues fully. They also asked about communication, including explaining tech issues to non-technical people, language barriers, and documenting solutions. It was pretty thorough.
- Tell us about yourself and your educational background.
- Could you share an instance where you encountered and resolved a challenging technical problem?
- What's your strategy for managing and prioritizing a queue of technical support requests?
Technical Support Engineer
For the past 2 years, Dell recruiters have been contacting me, but I hadn't spoken to anyone until a few months ago. I spoke with the recruiter about opportunities at Dell and shared my background and experience. The recruiter mentioned that I fit the company's profile and that they had many support roles. She then said she would talk to the hiring managers to see where I might fit and would get back to me by the end of that week. A week passed with no response from the recruiter. This continued for several more weeks until I received a generic email, sent to all candidates the recruiter had spoken with, reiterating that I was a good fit for the role but that they were still verifying positions and profiles with managers and would respond once a vacancy arose. Two months have passed, and I'm still waiting for a response. This makes me think that either Dell created these positions to gauge the market and salaries, or they won't have these roles until next year. In any case, the experience was quite negative. As a candidate, I felt frustrated and thought they could have been more honest with everyone.
- Could you tell me about yourself and your work history?
- What is your motivation for seeking a new role outside of your current company?
