First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DeKalb County School District.
Teacher
After I sent in my basic details and resume, I got to chat with a few principals from schools I was interested in. They asked a bunch of different things, from checking my subject matter expertise to seeing if I'd be up for leading after-school activities. Some of them weren't really open to my questions, which gave me a vibe.
- What is your motivation for seeking a role at this particular school?
Teacher
I mentored students at Austin Elementary (K-5), helping them with academics, personal stuff, and motivation. I worked with teachers and parents to figure out what students needed and how to help them grow. I also strategized student growth with the school's stakeholders and gave updates on progress and improvement areas.
- What qualifications do you have and why do you want to teach?
- What is your qualification? and why do you want to be a teacher?
Teacher
It was quick and detailed. Make sure to have your certificate handy and be ready to chat about what a typical day in your classroom would look like. They'll also want to know about your management style. Just a heads-up, some schools have specific behavior management programs they use throughout the year.
- How would you describe your classroom management style?
- Can you walk me through what a math lesson in your classroom would entail?
- Tell me about your management style.
